Nature Play

My Little Wilderbeast was born from my bikerides and walks in the forest.

I found inspiration from watching children play in nature and it reminded me of my own childhood. I admired the natural curiosity and wonder that comes so easily as a child.

Growing up on a farm I was always outside, climbing trees, playing hide and seek, or building nature forts.

Through my art I combine childhood memories and feelings from my childhood together with observations of what i see around me and my own imagination.

These little scenes of children playing in the wild show a natural curiosity and wonder so easily found in childhood. It is a celebration of nature play, evoking viewers to return to their own childhood and a call to get lost in nature.

In the Garden

I have fond memories of growing up on the farm and picking fruit with my family.

Our garden always had lots of fruit trees and it was a mad rush to pick the fruit in time before the birds ate them or before they would fall and rot on the ground.

Then the kitchen would be busy with jam making and preserving fruit in jars.

We were encouraged to eat a piece of fruit either to the stone, or an apple right to its core. Bruised and blemished parts were carefully removed but nothing was ever wasted.

Songs were sung, stories were told and there was a lot of laughter which made the task at hand feel so much more lighter and fun.

I hold onto these precious memories from my childhood and they often inspire my stories and my illustrations.
